HTC First kernel source now available from HTCDev

Developers looking to access deeper functions of the HTC First now have some of the necessary code

As we've seen many times before, HTC has just released the kernel source code for one of its devices via its HTCDev site. This time it's the HTC First on AT&T and just like before, the eager developers out there hoping to get deeper access to this comfortably-sized device now have more tools to do so. As we note each time that kernel source code is made available, this isn't a complete set of proprietary binaries required to make a completely custom ROM, but rather just some of the underlying code for the deep tinkerers that want to bother with the device's kernel.

We won't ever look this gift horse in the mouth though, as any time a major device manufacturer continually releases kernel source it deserves a nod for following the terms of the GPL license. Enterprising hackers among us can grab a download of the 99.2MB file at the source link below.

RAGBRAI PLANNING: Months Of Work | WHOTV.com

RAGBRAI?s rolling city takes one week to cross Iowa spending each night in a different city.?? In central Iowa, four towns will be opening up their hospitality for the group.

For the towns along the way, there is much planning and a lot of volunteers to coordinate. The work takes months.

?We bid for it, we wanted it and then when we got it and we got that first book we were like ?wow! This is incredible,? says Bob Wilson of the Perry Chamber of Commerce.

A book developed by RAGBRAI organizers, it gives towns like Perry an idea where to start.

Perry visitors may see the new Raccoon River Bike Trail but are not encouraged to ride it as emergency vehicles can?t get access to the trail.

However, a visit to Perry?s downtown including the Albert Paley sculpture and Hotel Patee will be on many cyclists? agenda.

In Oskaloosa, visitors will hang out at the scenic courthouse square ? Travel and Leisure Magazine designated the square the most beautiful in the Midwest.

Many city committees have been getting things ready. Hosting RAGBRAI can cost a community well over $100,000.

?it should be covered if we get sales in our beverage counters but we may not get the good beverages sales if we get rain,? says John Sullivan.

In Knoxville the community is hopeful of turning a profit to help the community.

Riders in Knoxville will get to take a lap around the Knoxville raceway which will be packed and dried out by then.

They will also cross Red Rock Lake on the mile long bridge but here too the local organizers needed to solve a problem.

?There are some grates there that has the potential to tear up tires. A local firm is going to actually specially make covers for these grate,? says ?Larissa Van Donselaar of the Knoxville Chamber of Commerce.

In all it takes months of planning for a one day visit which will hopefully leave a positive impression for years.

RAGBRAI begins on July 21^st in Council Bluffs.

C Spire's Galaxy S3 4.1.2 Premium Suite update begins July 3

The Premium Suite features make the 4.1.2 update into something worth waiting for

Starting sometime on July 3, users with a Samsung Galaxy S3 on the C Spire network should start seeing that oh-so-wonderful OTA pop-up we all cherish. The carrier is sending out the Android 4.1.2 update, including the Premium Suite features that we've seen in other Galaxy S3 models.

While an update to Jelly Bean is great in and of its own, the Premium Suite brings a good many new features to the device. Updates for previous models have included things like smart photo tagging, reader mode, S-Beam enhancements, and the crowd favorite multi-window view.

Samsung and C Spire have also made the update available online via Kies, so if you'd prefer not to wait you can use the Samsung utility to download and install this one -- though that often comes with its own unpleasant experience. 

If you're a C Spire customer with a Galaxy S3, start paying attention to your notifications in a few short hours. If and when you receive the update, be sure to sound off in the comment box and let everyone know what you think.
