SANAA, Yemen (AP) ? Yemeni security officials say forces loyal to the ousted president have besieged the Defense Ministry in Sanaa.
They were protesting presidential decrees stripping ex-President Ali Abdullah Saleh's son of part of his military command. Saleh stepped down in February but continues to intervene in Yemen's affairs.
Hundreds of officers from Yemen's best trained force, the Republican Guard, rallied at the Defense Ministry until early Friday.
Officials said authorities were tipped that a force loyal to Saleh and his son would try to storm the ministry. In response, they sent tanks and armored vehicles to the area. Officers threatened to open fire if protesters didn't leave.
The demonstration ended several hours later. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to reporters.
